Air Conditioning Emergency? Don’t Sweat It!
If your AC fails during a sweltering Omaha summer day, the heat is on to find a reliable solution. Before you send up the smoke signals, try these Eyman-approved tips to put the chill back in your summer!
There are a few simple steps you can take before making the call, and we’re here to walk you through them!
Tips to Fix A/C
1. Check the Settings
Specifically on the first truly hot day of summer, be sure that your settings are dialed in. Check that your thermostat is set to “cool” and not heat or fan. Adjust temperature down several degrees and note if the unit kicks on late, or not at all.
2. Ice Keeping You Hot?
If ice is forming on the fan outside of your home, you may be experiencing a loose or broken belt. This is actually an easy DIY replacement if you’re up for it, just make sure that you allow all ice to melt before restarting your unit.
3. Simple Maintenance Could Save the Day
If dust, leaves, or other debris build up in the coils and filter, it could cause problems for your system. Start by shutting off your unit, then hose down the condenser coils and replace the filter. Even if your unit is working, this could increase its efficiency and save you money!
4. Check the Fuses and Circuit Breaker
If your unit shares a circuit with another major appliance, the strain can blow the fuse.
5. Define the Issue
If you’ve addressed all of the above suggestions, take note of whether the unit is turning on at all, if its blowing hot or warm air, or if it’s simply sluggish. This information will be helpful when you call Eyman to get your unit back on its feet!
While you wait for us to arrive, close all of your blinds and curtains to stop the sun from increasing the temperature of your home. If possible, head to the lowest level of your home, as it will be the coolest, and sit tight! We’re on our way!
