Eyman respects longevity. That’s how we’ve managed to be one of Omaha’s lead mechanical contractors since 1957. We’re known as the “fix it” company because we know that you want to get as much use out of your home mechanical systems as possible, and we are happy to help you extend the life of your equipment for as long as possible!
Routine maintenance and a seasonal care package can squeeze years out of your heating and cooling systems, but the day will come when you’re ready to upgrade.
How Long Should My HVAC System Last?
This answer is slightly complicated. The life expectance of your heating and cooling system is between 10 and 30 years. Why such a swing? Each system is composed of a symphony of moving parts. Each element requires a level of cleaning, care, and maintenance to continue to carry its weight. Keeping elements clean and free of soot and debris, proper lubrication of moving parts, and updating elements as they begin to fail can buy you a lot of time.
Eyman offers a seasonal care package that can help extend the life of your unit. A Clean and Check keeps your unit running smoothly late into its life expectancy, while addressing minor fixes as they appear. As long as parts are still available for your unit, we will continue to repair it. When the parts for your unit become difficult to locate, it’s a good indication that the end is near.
When is it Time to Let Go?
Using parts that only “mostly fit” can be dangerous, and we will only replace elements with approved parts. Doing otherwise may void your warranty and can become a hazard. If we can’t find parts for your unit, it’s time to say goodbye.
Other indications that your unit may be nearing its end include
- Excessive dust accumulating in your home
- Difficulty regulating temperature
- Uneven temperature throughout the home
- Unit constantly cycling
- Strange sounds
- If the cost of repairing the unit exceeds 25% of what it would cost to replace it and it has reached or exceeded 2/3 of its expected life.
Advances are being made all the time, creating cleaner running, more energy efficient methods of controlling the temperature of your home. A new system will likely come with lower utility bills and fewer repairs than an outdated system.
