Dishwashers are amazing. You rinse plates, cups and silverware with a little water, stick them inside, add soap, hit a couple buttons and then, presto, clean dishes.
It sure beats washing everything by hand. But what happens if your dishwasher stops working correctly or simply stops working at all?
Here are the three most common dishwasher concerns:
1. Dishes remain dirty
Your dishes aren’t clean at the end of the cycle. Dirty dishes go in and dirty dishes come out.
Several things that could be the culprit. One is poor loading. If you jam too many things in or put them too close together, water and detergent may not reach the surface of each and every dish.
You could rearrange your dishes. Add extra detergent to see if it helps. If not, you may need professional assistance.
2. Dull residue on glassware
Your dishes have residue on them when the washing ends.
The problem could be that you used too much detergent. Your dishwasher uses only as much soap as it needs to get your dishes clean.
Check the detergent tray to see if you used too much. If it contains a soapy residue, you probably did. Use less and see if your dishes are less cloudy.
3. Improper drainage
The water isn’t draining properly after the wash cycle.
Seeing a little water left in your dishwasher is normal. It’s probably nothing to worry about. But if you think there’s too much water, your drain hose is damaged or there your drain is blocked.
Also, check the drain and the drain hose. If neither shows problems, you could need a new pump.
