9 Reasons Why HVAC Careers Are the Best

September 9, 2020 by Eyman Plumbing Staff

Pursuing an HVAC career can be very rewarding, especially if you enjoy being active. In this article, discover nine reasons why HVAC careers are the best.

Trying to find a career you’d want for the rest of your life can be one of the most difficult decisions you’ll ever make.

It’s all about finding a perfect mixture; the career needs to align with your skill set, offer opportunities for learning, and most importantly is something you’re passionate about.

As the old saying goes “Choose a job you love, and you’ll never have to work a day in your life.”

Pursuing HVAC careers can prove to be a very rewarding path for many, even if they don’t have much experience.

Listed below are several reasons why a career in HVAC could be the perfect position for you.

1. Problem Solving is Key

The best HVAC experts are those that excel at identifying the root of the problem within struggles a client is having.

Whether it’s about heating, plumbing, or air conditioning, you’ll need to use prior knowledge to discern a few plausible explanations.

Once you have an idea, it’s then about getting your hands dirty to see what the leading cause of a particular problem actually is. It takes a combination of know-how and understanding of mechanics to do a great job.

If you enjoy solving riddles and puzzles, then an HVAC career can provide you with puzzles to solve on a daily basis.

2. Hands-On Career

The jobs you’re often most proud of are the ones that require your blood, sweat, and tears to bring to fruition.

If sitting behind a desk for the next 40 years sounds horrible, then you’ll want a career that can keep you active.

HVAC careers keep you on the go, moving from house-to-house solving problems and meeting new people. What’s more rewarding than that?

3. Small Amount of Student Loans (or None)

Some students have little to no desire to attend a four-year university, as they can’t justify putting themselves in debt for tens of thousands of dollars.

Attending a trade school, on the other hand, takes far less time and is much less expensive.

In fact, a trade school (on average) only costs 25-percent of what a bachelor’s degree costs. Rather than being another college grad with upwards of $30,000 of student debt, you could be fully paid-off in only a few years’ time.

4. No Two Days Are the Same

An HVAC career is a fairly all-encompassing position to hold. You’re in charge of overseeing and fixing things like heating, cooling, and plumbing for your clients.

Because of that, this path is certain to keep you on your toes for the entirety of your career (in a good way).

No two days will be the same. As machinery and plumbing continue to advance, so-too will the problems you’ll come across. You’ll never fall victim to being pigeonholed… Far too many roadblocks must be in place for that to occur.

5. You Get to Help People

Some are merely searching for a career in which they can use their skill set to help others out. It gives them a feeling of accomplishment, which is worth longing for.

Jobs like being a sales person won’t give you that satisfied feeling. You may feel as though you’re convincing people to buy a product you don’t truly believe in.

HVAC is something that everyone has a need for, and you’re one of the few that can help them out.

6. Great Salary

The American Dream dictates that as you gain experience in a specific position, you should be compensated more for it.

However, many positions in today’s society don’t offer that benefit. They stick to the median pay for and don’t detour far from it.

HVAC is one of the few careers that still offers various overtime opportunities, since there’s a high need for it.

The hectic time of dead Winter and Summer will help you gain more hours and set yourself up for several big paychecks along the way. You can single-handedly boost your own annual income with enough hard work.

7. Room for Growth

Once you have years under your belt out in the field, you’ll see several opportunities for moving up in your HVAC career.

Some workers enjoy staying in the field to keep themselves active and out from behind a desk. Others decide to climb the ladder of management at their particular company.

Some decide to take all the knowledge and best practices they’ve learned into starting their very own HVAC business. Whichever path sounds most ideal to you, you’ll have plenty of opportunities come your way to do-so.

8. There Will Always Be Job Opportunities

Unlike many other careers and positions, there will always be a need for HVAC workers in your town.

The economy fluctuates, and perhaps the headcount will lower alongside the economy.

However, while all other types of jobs are outsourced to other countries or replaced by technology, HVAC will always require a local hero to maintain work.

9. Freedom

Perhaps the most valuable thing that this career can offer you is a sense of freedom. The feeling of having control over your daily life is priceless.

Because you’ll be going from place-to-place to provide service, you’ll be consistently out in the world rather than sitting in an office for 40+ hours every week.

Your friends and family will feel jealous of the control you have within your career, as well as how you can come-and-go as you please.
