If you like to tell people where to go and get the job done, consider a dispatching career.
As a dispatcher, expect days of fast-paced work with people and lots of organizational tasks. Ideally, just-hired dispatchers have some experience with HVAC, plumbing or whatever Eyman service for which they dispatch.
They translate the needs of clients to the technicians. And while dispatchers probably won’t diagnose issues over the phone, it’s good for them to understand a client’s issues before they send out a technician.
Skills and education
A dispatcher should be comfortable with a range of communication methods. These include by phone, via email and chat, and over the radio. For this reason, a dispatcher must have excellent communication skills.
Most dispatchers have a high school diploma or more. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the dispatching career field is expected to grow in the coming years.
