Studies show we are most productive in an environment where we are most comfortable, which is about 71 degrees Fahrenheit.
When Willis Carrier invented the first air conditioning system in 1902, it finally gave people a way to effectively control temperature, humidity, air circulation, ventilation and cleanse indoor air.
The order of operations for central air conditioning begins when you set a thermostat to the desired temperature. Say you want the inside temperature to be 71 degrees, but it’s 85 degrees outside.
Central air conditioning uses a closed refrigeration system to cool indoor air. Warm refrigerant enters your home’s outdoor unit, which houses electrical components; a compressor, condenser coil and a fan. These components work together to dispel the heat and re-cool the refrigerant before sending it back into the home.
As the cooled refrigerant flows inside, it passes through an indoor evaporator coil, usually installed in conjunction with your furnace. Heat energy transfers to the refrigerant inside the coil, cooling the air. In most U.S. homes, the cooling system is combined with the central heating system because they share the same ductwork for distributing conditioned air throughout your home.
This method of air conditioning is referred to as a “split system,” because it combines both an inside and outside system to draw heat energy out of the house and transfers that heat to the outdoors while cooling the air in your home. This cycle continues until your home reaches the cooling temperature you want, as programmed, and sensed by your thermostat setting.
If your AC system is over 10 years old, it may not work as well as it once did. You may begin to notice excessive noise and dust, rising summer utility bills and cooling and humidity inconsistencies.
If you begin to see these signs, it is best to call in the professionals to assess your air conditioner. Eyman Plumbing, Heating and Air can repair any air conditioner quickly and efficiently, saving you time and money. Call Eyman when the summer temperatures begin to creep into your home.
